Visit the St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral. When the cornerstone was laid in 1816,
the St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral became the first Catholic cathedral west of the
Alleghenies. It contains a valuable collection of 17th-century paintings
donated by King Louis Phillippe of France.
At Bardstown Historical Museum see part of Bardstown’s unique historical
perspective in Spalding Hall (circa 1820). This extensive collection includes an
original porcupine-quill-decorated Indian coat and one of the first Kentucky
long rifles made in Bardstown by renowned gunsmith, Jacob Rizer (circa
1835).
The Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History is of great interest. Here you will
see the history of the bourbon industry from pre-colonial days to the present.
Artifacts relating to distilleries, including old copper stills, examples of fine oak
cooperage, antique bottles, jugs, advertising art and collectibles.
Tour My Old Kentucky Home. This home was the symbol of Stephen Foster’s
most endearing song. Its decor includes rare and beautiful furnishings as it
was when Foster was a guest.
